The Client

Aardy is the leading Travel Insurance Marketplace in the USA. They work to get the travel cover you need at a price you can afford. They compare rates from over 30 plans to ensure their customers always get the best prices.

The Challenge

Webtrends Optimize are committed to underwriting Fresh Egg’s Performance Guarantee which supports brands who may find it difficult to initially commit to a 12-month CRO contract by minimising the initial investment and risk.

For Aardy we aimed to drive a 4% increase in conversion rate and an agreed $1m in annualised incremental revenue over an initial four-month contractual period.

Additionally, Aardy wanted to start their journey of using experimentation to make data- led decisions.

If the targets, which were mutually agreed, were achieved, the programme would continue for the rest of the year with new, more ambitious goals. If the uplift targets were not met, Aardy could opt to end the programme early.

The Solution

To kick-start the testing roadmap with a view to achieving the required 4% increase in conversion rate over the initial contract period, Fresh Egg worked closely with Aardy to conduct in-depth website funnel analysis. This showed that the quote results page was the critical area of focus, with over three-quarters of users not proceeding.

After this initial discovery stage, Fresh Egg used unmoderated user testing to understand why users did not purchase. Price was a key factor, with many comparisons of policy features against price. Removing the user’s anxiety about whether they have the most competitive price enables them to focus on the right policy for their needs and significantly increases their commitment to buying.

This accrued data enabled us to understand the essential areas of the journey to optimise, and the required drivers to increase user conversion. Fresh Egg then created a prioritised testing backlog focused on driving incremental revenue for Aardy’s travel insurance product.

One of the critical value-driving concepts was pushing Aardy’s “price guarantee” USP more prominently for their users, creating a concept using Fresh Egg’s insurance-specific prioritisation matrix.

Through collaborative efforts and utilising the powerful experiment build capabilities of Webtrends Optimize, an AB test was developed to capture the attention of users visiting Aardy.com, to confirm statistically whether the variation performed better than the original version and increased overall sales.

The Results

As a result of this AB test, during the testing phase, we saw:

  • A 12% increase in quote to sale
  • A $2.5m increase in annualised revenue
  • A consistent uplift across all devices

Since concluding the winning test, we have worked collaboratively with Aardy to have the winning variation hardcoded within a week of being declared a winner to drive this benefit across the annualised period.

With Fresh Egg’s Performance Guarantee proving hugely successful, exceeding the agreed $1m target in one AB test, the CRO programme now continues with Webtrends Optimize, Fresh Egg and the team at Aardy collaborating to drive more incremental benefits in the future through further experimentation.
